Beer has been brewed in Litovel for centuries. And the story of the Litovel Brewery has been unfolding for a very long time. The brewery has grown together with Haná for more than 130 years. With the people who live here, work here, and pass their craft on to the next generation. Generation after generation has added its labour, its experience, and its commitment.

The history of the Litovel Brewery is not just a set of dates in a calendar. Here are the moments that shaped the brewery’s future. Its direction, values and the quality of the beer we hold in our hands today. We can proudly summarise our history as follows: Times change but the essentials remain. Honest craftsmanship, respect for origins and the belief that good things should mature at their own pace.

THE IDEA IS SOWN

Innkeeper and entrepreneur Josef Svozil stands at the very beginning of the vision of a brewery in Haná – one that would brew honest beer for local people.

A TEST OF PATIENCE

The First World War brings production restrictions and a shortage of raw materials. Yet the brewery survives thanks to the tenacity of the people who work there.

MODERNISATION AND DEVELOPMENT

NATIONALISATION OF THE BREWERY

The brewery is placed under state administration. Yet true craftsmanship lies beyond the reach of any ownership structure.

How our beer is brewed

Litovel beer is brewed from quality local ingredients and with respect for a craft passed down from generation to generation in Haná. We stick to the classic methods because we know that there is no substitute for honest work.

Brewhouse

We know what the beer should be from the very beginning. We brew to a predetermined gravity to ensure structure in the flavour and a unique character in every style.

The fermentation hall and open‑tank fermentation

We pump the pitched wort into open fermentation vats in the fermentation hall, where the primary fermentation takes place. In Litovel, the yeast does its honest, traditional work “the cold way”.

Lagering cellars

The beer matures in the lagering cellars at a temperature of around 1–2°C. It rests there for roughly 20 to 100 days depending on its strength – the stronger the beer, the longer the maturation. It’s in the lagering phase that the beer clarifies, gains its character and becomes naturally carbonated.

Filtration

During filtration, we carefully remove the sediments and impurities that form during the brewing process. We give the beer time to bring out what is essential: its clean, balanced flavour.

BOTTLING HALL

When the beer has matured to perfection, it’s time to bottle it. Gently, calmly, and with the kind of care that preserves what matters most: freshness and honest flavour.

LABORATORY

Every batch is checked with care to ensure it delivers exactly what you expect from a good beer. We monitor flavour, quality, and consistency because with honest things there’s no room for chance. Just another reason why Litovel tastes the way it should.

Tours and Brewery Museum

Don't miss a tour of the Litovel Brewery. You’ll discover how Litovel beer is traditionally made, explore the charming brewhouse and the lagering cellars, and visit the Brewery Museum along the way. The tour ends with a beer tasting. The whole experience lasts approximately 2 hours and delights the eye, soul and taste buds.
